Client questions:
1. How do you plan on getting the magazine into stores while it's still relatively small? I plan to start small, sell the magazine in smaller shops such as news agents which should be relatively cheap to sell to. I will plan a business proposal for them and explain how my magazine will benefit them and increase their revenue, if they agree I will be able to start gaining a reputation for my magazine. Once my magazine has been established I will approach small influencers to endorse the magazine on their social media platforms, this will gain us more customers and will allow the magazine to gain a larger consumer base, allowing the magazine to grow and become more successful. When I reach this stage I will then approach big chain supermarkets to consider my product, I will perform a similar pitch although it will be tailored to the specific supermarket as to why they should sell the magazine.
2. How do you plan to specifically target North Londoners? To attract the attention of North Londoners specifically, I will firstly sell the magazine in local shops. Additionally, I will feature articles about the local music scene including; venues, local artists, local recording labels and more. I believe this will entice the North London population to read my magazine and consequently gain their business.
3. How will your magazine make money? Initially, we will apply for a small loan to start-up the magazine and cover the initial costs needed to produce the first several editions of the magazine. My magazine will consist of advertisements, like other magazines, mine will include a 40:60 ratio between adverts and content. This allows readers to gain knowledge from the magazine and enjoy the articles produced. While additionally, learning about new products which might peak their interest and consequently make the brand more money, adverts in my magazine will allow funds to produce the magazine. Additionally, pop-up ads on the website version will also help with funding. Finally, after a year or so we aim for the magazine to be profitable, and therefore the consumers' money will help fund new editions of the magazine.
4. Why would your tertiary audience enjoy your magazine? The tertiary audience of 20-45-year-old males might also enjoy the music within this genre and therefore want to learn more about it. Perhaps they have children or a wife who is interested and therefore find it lying around the house and will decide to read it. Or maybe will purchase it to better understand their interests, they might want to understand why their daughter/ wife is always consumed within the pop culture and to better grasp their feelings they will purchase a copy in an attempt to connect. Finally, they could buy a copy for a birthday gift to a member of the target audience.
5. Where do you see your product in the future? In the future I hope to be one of the top magazines in North London, I hope the magazine will be a household name and appear in many shops all around. I aim to expand the magazine both by where it will be sold as well as the product itself, I would consider turning the magazine into a Youtube channel and I feel the existing consumers would likely follow the content to Youtube. Perhaps in the distant future the magazine will host an event where readers can do a meet and greet with featured artists, this event could also feature live performances, autographs and would be funded by businesses purchasing booths in the event to sell products.
6. Is your magazine flexible? My magazine would be flexible for customers to ensure I can uphold a good reputation and allow customers to feel comfortable purchasing the subscriptions offered. The annual magazine subscription is £35 and customers are able to easily sign up on the website, all they will have to do is sign up with an e-mail address and input their credit card number so we know who to charge. If customers wish to cancel their subscription with us then this is also very easy for them, all they must do is click 'cancel subscription' and this will lead a pop-up to appear and ask the question 'are you sure?' at this point the customer will click 'yes' or 'no' and then just like that is able to cancel.
7. Do you think that you have made the magazine too feminine? The magazine is very feminine, yes. However, the large majority of my target audience is female and therefore I have tried to appeal to them, according to stereotypes and market research, young girls and women like the colour pink and feminine looking fonts such as 'growing garden' and therefore I have tried to incorporate this into my magazine. While this can make it difficult to attract the tertiary audience, some issues of the magazine will include slightly more masculine colours such as blue and green while still remaining in the pop theme and therefore I will be able to sell to them when these editions are sold. Overall, I cannot ignore the fact that the mass majority of my audience is female and studies have shown they like these elements and for this reason I have decided to incorporated this.
